LingoLoop Privacy Policy
Effective: August 11, 2026
LingoLoop is a local-first video player for language learning. The developer does not operate an account system, analytics service, or advertising service. An optional caption-matching proxy is used only when you ask to search SubDL. The practices for that request are described below.
Information that stays on your device
LingoLoop stores the following information locally so its features work:
- network server addresses, paths, usernames, and source names;
- security-scoped bookmarks for local folders you select through Files;
- server passwords in the Apple Keychain;
- playback position and learning settings;
- attached caption files, extracted-caption caches, saved phrases, compact sentence video/audio clips, vocabulary, and personal notes; and
- videos that you explicitly download for offline study.
This information is not transmitted to the developer. Removing a network source deletes its saved credential. Removing the app deletes its app-container data; iOS controls whether Keychain items persist after an app is removed. Individual sources, saved items, and offline videos can also be removed within the app.
Network communication
LingoLoop communicates with devices and servers only to provide features you choose:
- It connects to an NFS, SMB, or other media address you configure in order to browse, stream, or download your files.
- It opens local or cloud-provider folders only after you choose them in the Apple Files picker. Those provider URLs are read for browsing and streaming; adding a folder does not upload its path or copy its videos into LingoLoop.
- When you tap Find Nearby Servers, it uses Bonjour on the local network to find advertised NFS and SMB services.
- When you choose AirPlay, Apple system services send playback to the output device you selected.
- When you tap Match captions, LingoLoop sends the selected video's filename, your editable search text, and chosen language to the LingoLoop caption proxy. The proxy forwards the request to SubDL and returns search results or the single caption file you choose. It never receives your video body, existing captions, NAS address, username, or password.
The operators of servers or network devices you choose may process connection information under their own policies. The LingoLoop caption proxy has no database, disables request/access logging for its route, and does not retain the request. SubDL says its server logs may include IP address, user agent, requested URLs, and timestamps and that logs and rate-limit counters are short-lived and rotate automatically under its privacy policy. It sees the proxy server address rather than your NAS credentials or video. You control this optional disclosure by choosing whether to use Match captions; locally attached captions can be removed from the player.
Tracking and advertising
LingoLoop contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, cross-app tracking, or device fingerprinting. It does not sell or share personal information.
Permissions
LingoLoop requests Local Network access so it can connect to and discover the media servers you choose. You can change this permission in iOS Settings. The core sample lesson remains available without granting Local Network access.
Children
LingoLoop does not knowingly collect information from children or anyone else. The app plays files selected by the person using the device and does not provide a public content catalog.
Changes
If the app's data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy declaration will be updated before the changed version is distributed.
